Yuvraj Singh is highly motivated to perform in IPL, said Gary Kirsten

New Delhi: head coach of Delhi Daredevils Gary Kirsten said on Friday he wanted Yuvraj Singh in the team because of his good relationship with him during his tenure as head of the Indian cricket team. He also said the versatile flamboyant was motivated more than ever to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

“I had a great experience working with Yuvraj in the Indian team,” Kirsten was quoted as saying by iplt20.com.

“It is apt, as it has ever been. For me, I really wanted this team, as this part of the world. I do not think there is a motivated guy Yuvraj.”

On the appointment of the South African Jean Paul Duminy as captain of the team, former coach of the world champion India said the left-hander leadership credentials.
“JP is a fantastic human being,” said Kirsten his compatriot.

“It has already begun captain T20 team in South Africa. We wanted continuity as he played for the franchise and knows many Indian players. It was a natural choice. He got good leadership credentials.”

Kirsten also admitted that it was the task of managing an IPL last year when Delhi side finished bottom of the eight-team tournament.

“Yeah, could be. It’s a good observation. I think I was definitely (taken aback). I think I learned a lot from last year that IPL is different from international cricket. It takes a little time to get used to any coach, “said Kirsten.

“Physically, it is a demanding tournament. Last year we did not have much help. But we have some good combinations this year. This is just to get our thought process.”
